Unfortunately, the film was a victim of bad timing: it came out only two days before the tragic massacre at Columbine High School. Later that year, she appeared as a supporting cast member in two films that achieved much better results at the box office: “The Sixth Sense” and “Notting Hill.” | | | Best Known For: | Mischa is best known for playing Marissa Cooper in the Fox drama “The O.C.” Her character is a rich girl who constantly fights with her parents and her boyfriend Ryan, a “reformed” juvenile delinquent. She has serious problems with alcohol and drug addiction. Marissa died in a car crash at the end of the series’ third year. | | | Cool Facts: | Mischa, who is naturally thin herself, has spoken out about social pressure for young girls to be thin: “It’s so wrong to try and stifle womanly curves, it shouldn’t be promoted. This unhealthy look should be abandoned.” | | | Quick Bio: | Mischa was born in England, but has lived in the United States from early childhood. Mischa’s beauty was obvious from an early age: she was signed by the Ford Agency as a child model. Mischa attended New York City’s Professional Children’s School, where she got straight A’s. Her first role as an actress was in a Tony Kushner play called “Slavs!” The part required her to learn to speak with a Russian accent, certainly a difficult undertaking for a girl who was only nine years old at the time! Her debut movie role was in the award-winning British film “Lawn Dogs” (1997), a powerful film about a wealthy girl who develops a relationship with a working class man living in a trailer in the woods. In 1996, Mischa joined the cast of the popular television soap opera “All My Children.” Many troubled young people felt inspired by her performance, which allowed them to accept themselves as they are. Her role on “All My Children” was a big stepping-stone for her subsequent career in film and television. Mischa’s breakthrough year was 1999, when three movies featuring her were released. Mischa is known for taking on difficult roles, and for playing those parts with great sensitivity. In 2001, Mischa starred in a Canadian movie called “Lost and Delirious,” a film about a young girl’s despair when her family rejects her romantic relationship with a girlfriend at school. Mischa’s signature role for most of her fans is the part she played on the TV show “The O.C.” from 2003 to 2006. Her departure from the show resulted in a huge ratings decrease when the drama resumed earlier this year: the season opener attracted only 3.4 million viewers, down from the 7.5 million who watched her character die in the previous season finale. Now that her role in that show is over, Mischa is devoting her full attention to her movie career. She is currently featured in four films that will be released over the next year! | | | Other Notes: | Want to have some fun with Mischa? Check out her word search puzzle! | | |
